Benson Students of the Month for January 2014

Benson High School honored four students (freshman Emily Rosengarten, sophomore Nick Hernandez, junior Emma Porter, and senior Justice Ramos) with the ‘Students of the Month’ award for January 2014 under the category of leadership.

Freshman Emily Rosengarten, according to her teachers, is a fantastic student and leader.  She is a class officer and takes charge of every meeting.  She drives her class in a positive direction (every time someone makes a negative comment toward the topic being covered, she always has a positive twist).  Emily is the freshman class secretary, is on the academic team, and is in the choir.  “It’s an honor to be recognized by my teachers for leadership,” she said.  Emily is the daughter of Todd and Linnea Rosengarten.

Sophomore Nick Hernandez is, according to his teachers, a quiet, hard-working student who leads by example.  He is always positive, friendly, and inspires trust.  He effectively balances his athletics with academics.  Nick is a member of the bobcats’ football, basketball, and baseball teams.  “It was a great honor to get this award.  Thank you to all my t4eachers who voted for me,” he said.  Nick is the son of David and Jaymee Hernandez.

Junior Emma Porter leads by example, according to her teachers.  She is an active student who helps with the prom committee, is the co-president of the bobcat choir, is organized, helpful, and is planning for her future.  She is a member of the academic team, the choir, the Book Club, the Future Career and Community Leaders of America the National Honor Society, is a student mentor and a cheerleader.  “I’m honored to be selected for the student of the month,” she said.  “The fact that my teachers think I’m a leader and appreciate my hard work makes me happy.”  Emma is the daughter of Jennifer Cleridge.

Senior Justice Ramos, according to her teachers, has demonstrated leadership qualities in student council activities.  She is a member of the soccer team and manages the boys’ basketball and track and field teams.  She is the student council president, is a member of the Book Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a student mentor.  “I’m happy to have been chosen for the leadership trait.  It lets me know I’m doing a good job as the student council president,” she said.  Justice is the daughter of Susan and Ryan Barney and Angel and Jackeline Ramos.
